Good People Day 2008

by Katja Presnal on April 3, 2008

An internet celebrity Gary Vaynerchuk announced today, April 3rd, the “Good People Day”. A day to celebrate the Good People in all of our internet networks, and virtual realities.

While I love the idea and I want to raise a toast of wine (in Gary’s honor, he is a wine expert after all) to you, it is just impossible task for me to start naming “good people”.

There are just too many to name for. And evidently I would forget someone important, and while meaning well, I would just hurt someone’s feelings.

Hopefully you understand, why I celebrate the Good People Day by not mentioning any good people. Don’t take it personally, I don’t buy a Valentine’s Day gift even to my husband. And on Mother’s Day I’m just fine that only gift I get is a sweet kiss. See, I’m sort of against all of those days. I like to show my appreciation in everyday life and I don’t expect roses from my husband – he wows me by flying over the house in the middle of the day.

So, toast with me. Toast for the goodness in all people and toast for the friendships we have found in this virtual blogging world. Toast in the name of good you do everyday and toast in the name of unexpected goodness. And maybe someday, when it’s not a Valentine’s day, birthday or any other day Hallmark makes you think you need to buy a card for, then do something good. There is nothing better than an element of a surprise.

Ok, I do have to mention one Good Person. My neighbour Liz. She surprised us today with a huge pot of homemade chicken soup and gingerbread cake. Me and kids are still sick, and after over a week of being in flu, my strenght to even think of dinner is fairly low. The surprise of today meant so much more to me than a gift on “a special day”.
