Huge Giveaway Month! Savvy Auntie Coffee Mug

by Katja Presnal on July 12, 2008

I first told you about Savvy Auntie back in January… And Savvy Auntie has some great news! SavvyAuntie.com, an online community for Aunts just launched this Wednesday.

Savvy Auntie is your site to get answers to tough questions like how to influence that teen in your family who smokes or what to do when you find out about a special needs child with a disability, a disorder, or a rare disease. Savvy Auntie offers a guide to kids entertainment and the best gifts.

Savvy Auntie is a site you must visit to really see what it is all about.

You migth ask, so what’s the difference between a “parenting site” and an “auntie site”.

Well, that’s simple.

I remember when I still didn’t have children and I had some very simple questions about childen, but felt really intimidated to ask from seasoned moms. I felt that as a woman I “should know” these things, and often didn’t get a good answer from parents themselves, they couldn’t believe I was seriously asking these simple questions “everybody knows the answer”.

Wouldn’t it be great that your “simple” (or not so simple) questions about children didn’t get answered with that know-it-all-attitude and you’d see that there are actually a lot of other women too, who have same questions as you do? (I’m not any better here, I became the “know-it-all-mom” too after reading, researching and being a mother).

And you know what makes Savvy Auntie your new best friend? Her approach is to help Aunties but she knows how the parents think.

Check out Savvy Auntie and comment here for your chance to win a Savvy Auntie coffee mug!

Katja–Think both you and Savvy Auntie rock.

I love the point you made about talking with pre-teens and teens about important issues. My daughter may one day feel uncomfortable coming to me…but I sure hope she goes to my SIL or my close friends, one of whom is an Aunt by blood relation to several kids and also an Aunt by choice to my kiddo and many others.

Women like this who can provide that adult wisdom in an approachable way are indispensable–especially with teenage girls.

This site seems to be a great resource for parents.

There is a community to share and ask questions.

I like the top rated articles and the expertise section.

Instead of searching all over this is a great way to find some answers.

I could give this to my sister if I win, but then again, I could keep it for myself because I am a Savvy Aunt.

Hi, I think the idea for an “Auntie” site is very clever and useful. I am the aunt of 6 and very close to my two oldest nieces. We have a very special relationship. My sister is ten years older than me and had her two girls by the time she was 25 and I was 15. I went on vacations with them and babysat a lot. Please enter me in your lovely mug contest drawing. I would love to show my nieces the mug. I wish your site much luck. Thanks, Cindi

That is an interesting concept for a web site, and the name is so fitting as most kids go to their aunties to get the real scoop on their problems…I know I always talked to my youngish aunts about boys and stuff rather than my mom.
