It&#039;s about $4/hour, yes. Babysitters make more than that. But as I understand it, an au pair is like an exchange student who also babysits--they&#039;re getting free room and board, treated like family rather than a servant, and full language/cultural immersion. (My high school French teacher recommended au pairing for that alone.)</description>
