Valentine’s Tip – last minute: go to dollar store & purchase 4 or 5 different heart-related items like heart boxers, heart lollipops, etc. and hide them around the house with a note to help your love find them. Make it a little treasure hunt that he can enjoy more than once. Then, conclude the hunt with the treasure of you, wrapped up in some fun lingerie or having made a candle-lit dinner.

carma 02.12.09 at 20:03

Personally engraved items make a great gift; most malls have stores that will engrave items such as key chains and it can be done right at the shop. Personalize it with your own special words for a sentimental gift.

my last min tip is: send hubs a card at the office! this always tickles him… not often he gets fun, personal mail at work.

Nicole Ibarrondo 02.12.09 at 20:11

Using regular sugar cookie mix – divide the mix in half, color one half with red food coloring. Shape the “red” dough into “x” shapes and the undyed dough into “o” shaped. Bake as directed. Great gift for either your loved one…symbolizing “hugs and kisses” or for kids since it could double as a game of tic tac toe! Voila!

Walgreens saves me every time! I fell and severely sprained my foot last week, and only REMEMBERED V-day when I was filling an Rx at Walgreens the other day. I can’t even drive, so thank God my mom was able to drive me! Cards, treats – all good. :)

Have a romantic picnic inside. We couldn’t get a sitter for Saturday night, so we are improvising. We are going to put our son to bed (usually around 8pm). Then we’re going on a picnic in the living room. I’m going to lay a blanket on the living room floor. Then we’re going to eat Japanese by candle light. We’re strapped for money, so we’re getting the lunch menu to go & we’ll save it for dinner. Then we’ll watch a rented movie together! This is very romantic & you can plan it last minute!
Thanks!

This year, it’s on a Saturday. Do a picnic if weather permits. If icky outdoors, make an indoor picnic on a blanket in the family room. Invite the kids! Everyone will have fun taking turns telling one thing they love about each other. (Walmart sells food and blankets, right? They’ll love this idea, then!)

And I’m going to love winning that iTouch!

Hi Katja! I like to do Valentine’s for my whole family – here’s this year’s plan:

1. a heart shaped wall “pocket” of everyone’s fave treats (Reece’s hearts) including some original photos I’m making into Valentines for everyone – the “pocket” was made by one of my boys when he was little :)

2. lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and red velvet cupcakes from Sprinkles

3. renting the movie “the Holiday”

And, this can’t be used on V-Day, but you can celebrate love on the 15th, too, right? A B1G1 entree coupon for TGIFridays! It’s my tip to my hubby for my gift. So I don’t have to cook. Or do dishes. Here’s a link to the coupon: http://www.tgifridays.com/promos/bogo_coupon.aspx?fromeTarget

#Twitted, Stumbled, and Subscribed.

Tiffany 02.12.09 at 23:25

last minute valentine: Go to wal mart and buy a 1 dollar pink table cloth, 1 dollar heart tumblers, candles, heart plates and napkins, pink plastic forks, ect. Set the table with these things. Make a good dinner. eat together and for desert, a heart shaped cake with pink or red frosting and heart sprinkles.

The Mom Jen 02.12.09 at 23:45

Here’s a tip for the cheap date….drive to the local mini mart and pick up one of those roses with the water tube attatched to the bottom. $1-1.59. Budget done. Come home fill the bath with hot water, light some candles, romance done. Finally, for the added “Valentine’s Touch” toss petals from the rose into the tub. Pray that works! ;)

I’m making cards for my husband and my kids, which will of course have hearts all over them. I’m planning to set up a little “beach scene” in the living room, to give them their Valentine’s gifts… a surprise trip to Florida that we’ll take in a couple weeks, while our kids have a few days off of school. (I have paper palm trees for the walls, sand for part of the floor, and a CD of beach sounds). I have been saving paychecks for a while, and found REALLY great (almost unbelievable) airfares.

Hoping that this idea is good enough to win us an ipod touch (my husband would probably like that even more than the trip!)

Thanks ~

Last-minute gift tip: Bake, bake bake! My family and friends share the same sweet tooth. Even brownies baked from a 99-cent mix are a huge hit with everyone. a good last minute valentine’s gift tip? bake valentine’s day goodies – cookies, cake, pie, scones, whatever your sweetie loves the most!

This would be a last minute tip for couples..Me and my husband usually have no money when it comes to valentines, due to an anniversary which is pretty much the same, various birthdays and other stuff. So we usually cook a small dinner for the two of us and watch a movie after the kids have gone to bed. It’s a perfect thing to do and uses the rsources we have around our house and its great also if you’ve left everything to the last minute!

Last year on the evening before Valentine’s Day, I waited for my husband to go to sleep. The all night grocery store was only 2 minutes away. I bought a bunch of big helium balloons. I stuffed them all inside the front of his Jeep, and taped a card to the steering wheel. The next morning he called me from work and told me he got the scare of his life. The garage was dark, and as he was getting into the Jeep, the balloons attached him, or so he said. Even so, he thoroughly enjoyed it!

A last minute gift would be to creat a certificate for a free massage, a homecooked meal, or something else. YOu can write it on a card and a personal service like that makes it special.

doahleigh 02.13.09 at 07:50

Make a card! Homemade cards are so much sweeter than store-bought ones. Even if you don’t have a lot of creative ability because even poorly made cards are adorable if made with love.

Last minute tip: Picnic! Even indoors if it’s cold out! Turn a regular meal into something special by spreading out a blanket, lighting some candles and breaking open the wine.

Last minute gift idea could be a shadow box with pics of you together or of your kids, an old movie ticket of a movie you saw together, things from a first date, something that reminds them of how you met. I did this once and stuck in an Arby’s fry container because that’s basically where we met.

My last minute Valentines Day Tip is if you don’t have a lot of money to purchase a nice gift, check out your local thrift shops, like Goodwill, you would be amazed at the treasures you can find there for under $5!! I have actually purchased brand new well known designer name brands for my 3 kids and my husband there and the items still had the original price tags on them! You can really do well there if you take the extra time to really look through the racks! Happy VD to you All!

Last minute Valentine’s gift tip- A couple years ago, I put off Valentine’s shopping until the very last minute – like Feb. 13th. Panic mode usually sparks my creativity. I picked up a six pack of my sweetie’s favorite import beer (Bass & Co’s Pale Ale), took it to the florist who very kindly added balloons, flowers and ribbons. The finished product looked so impressive. I had it delivered to him at work. The florist only charged me $15 including delivery. I left a $10 tip – so for $25 I had a really nice, unique Valentine’s Day Bouquet that he loved.
Everyone loves a delivery at work!!
That paired with his favorite meal, ready after work , turned out to be a really nice gift.
It’s so weird, my sister just called to tell me that she will be giving her boyfriend a Beer Bouquet this year!! I told her I was just writing about that!!!
A marketing opportunity???

For last minute I usually dig through my scrapbook items, print a few photos and whip up a card. Last year I waited way too long so I stopped at Starbucks and bought a mug that you could put photos in. I made a background, cut it out & glued on a photo of our girls. Renée aka Mekhismom 02.13.09 at 20:18

A last minute gift for hubby – getting a sitter, cooking his favorite meal and enjoying a romantic evening alone with a bottle of wine.

Cupcakes! Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

If all else fails, or you just forgot, cook a really yummy dinner for your special someone, and then clean their house.

valmg 02.13.09 at 20:50

My tip is instead of buying a gift, make one. Instead of taking your sweetie out to dinner make something new that they’ll love.

If everyone is going to have a busy day, or the kids have their own plans for the evening, why not make an extra special breakfast so everyone can start the day together. Even if you only serve cereal, at least everyone will be sharing a meal together.

When my kids were little, I used to add a little red food coloring to their milk to make it pink for Valentine’s Day. It was a fun way to start their day.

I subscribed to your blog.

Vday last minute idea:
Heart shaped rice krispee treats made with your kids.

Or even better – check out some of the sites that have free trade items or items you can buy that will feed the hungry or help orphans – My personal favorite is Saint’s Coffee, you can even set up regular orders for it and it is great coffee. You feed an orphan for a month when you purchase a pound of Saint Coffee – that is TRUE LOVE.

It doesn’t get any more last minute than pulling out your craft drawer and attempting to make a card that is just cute enough to make them forget that you forgot!
I think you have the email address, but just in case it’s justranee @ comcast.net

Valentines Day in our family is a day of giving PAJAMAS! We all need them and Valentines Day can get pretty expensive. It’s so much fun!

Tell your lover you’ll gonna be doing something special tonight.
Buy some fruits (melon, apples, banana, grapes and oranges).
Cut the melon in half and use your creativity to make something cool out of the fruits. You can incorporate your lover as well to help you.
Use some wine or some spirits to spice things up. Then put the stuff you made to the fridge for half an hour and then consume it as you like it.
