FROM BLAH TO SPRING SOPHISTICATED
I am so excited to share my bedroom makeover with you. I turned my bedroom from blah to sophisticated with the inspiration from Better Homes and Gardens and a budget of $500.
Even better – I am able to offer one of my readers and mini-makeover! Read the details on the bottom of this post to win your own Better Homes & Gardens home make over!
It took me a few visits to Walmart to gather all of the products from the Better Homes & Gardens product line, and one day to put together my bedroom. You can also see what my fellow bloggers, Sheena of Mommy Daddy Blog and Colleen of Classy Mommy did for their living rooms and kitchens by visiting BHG.com.
$500 BUDGET
My challenge was to actually to try to spend the whole $500. In addition to bedding, curtains and lighting, I bought some green bowls from kitchen section and garden lights from garden section to bring little details to the room.
My Better Homes & Gardens products from Walmart:
Wall Scones & Candle Holders with candles 70$
Curtains with curtain accessories 60$
Bedding $125
Lighting $52
Picture Frames $40
Book Shelf $75
Bowls $10
Total: $432
(Prices are approximate with taxes)
In addition I got fresh flowers from 1-800-Flowers.com and printed out photos with my printer, and used some items that I found from our home.

BREAKING THE DESIGN RULES AND GOING WITH ASYMMETRY
Originally I bought two of the bookshelves – I know that in interior design it is all about symmetry, and I wanted to have two bookshelves on both sides of the bed as side tables. I like to have books, somewhere to lay down my laptop and other things for the night, but our bedroom is so small, that we couldn’t fit two bookshelves in the room. I decided to forget about traditional rules of design, and decorate my room with less symmetry.
I made my own side table with a few photo boxes and added some height with a third box and added a lamp. Note that even my lamps are not matching – but they have the same color lamp shades and are at the same height. I like the idea of having black and white photos, but I mixed it up little bit even in the photo frames. I used black and white photos, color photos of flowers (to match the decor) and a few pictures with a color pop up.
My plan was to bring spring and garden in our bedroom. I wanted to have green as accent color, but ended up added shades of fuchsia and pink, the colors that I found in a Better Homes and Gardens “Garden Room” rose pillow. I even used different colored candles in the wall scones and in the candle holders on the bookshelf to give some contrast.
Notice also my curtains, which look perfectly symmetrical at the first look, but when you look closely, I added garden lights as a tie back on the other side. The ribbon was holding the cream colored bedding together when I bought it, so talk about using your resources! To add a little personal touch, I tied three old fashioned keys to the ribbon tie back. I repeated the number three many times… three candle holders, scones, keys and three flowers on the window, bowls on the shelf, three boxes stacked as night table.
So.. What do you think? How did I do?

i would love to spruce up my bedroom :)
I would love to make over our bedroom. It is the only room in the house that has been completely ignored, and yet we spend the most time there. With $100 I would buy some wall decorations and if there was any left over, some sheer curtains.
I would love to redo the room that is now our office. It needs some definite sprucing up!!!
the downstairs bathroom!
We could really use the BH&G Bedding for our master bedroom.
i’d get the better homes & gardens lake in the woods rug for in front of the television area. with my teenagers this has become a high traffic area.
I would buy new curtains for my family room
I just bought a new banana leaf headboard. I need some design assistance to help pull together all my mismatched furniture and
add some stlyle to my otherwise strange room.
I so need to do my bedroom over. My bed linens are faded from too many washings, and stained from too many coffee spills (hubby brings me breakfast in bed – gotta love that man!). I have no window treatments other than the blinds, and I have paintings that need framing…. I NEED HELP. Thanks for the chance.
BTW, your bedroom is gorgeous, the colors you picked are perfect……
We would use it to touch up the guest bedroom.
I would redo our Master Bedroom. It hasn’t been updated in 12 years.
awesome
I would love to redo our den and modernize it.
I would love to makeover my bedroom.
I would love to do my bedroom. It needs help. It has no design!!!
I need to do my bedroom. It is stagnant with the same colors for too long. Flowers, drapery and bedding is needed. More soft tones than what I have now which is red and blue.
i wish I could make over my bedroom.
I’d like to makeover our bonus room.
I would like to make over my living room/den.

The Better Homes and Gardens Computer Workstation, Desk w/ Hutch
Better Homes and Gardens Computer Workstation, Desk w/ Hutch
would look perfect in my home office.
You did a great job! I love the ironwork style :) I also really like the Campari valence; if I won, I would use it, and the money, to redecorate my mom’s garden section of her massive shed. I just cleaned it for her (shh, she doesn’t know!) and it was a mess from other people throwing junk in there! Chairs, and dog beds, and rugs, and tools – ugh. It’s clean now, just a little sparse of decor. I would love to make it a happy place for her again :)
Would love to develop a small sitting room off the kitchen its now an open back deck; WHAT A MAKEOVER IN THE MINI STYLE!!!!!!
I’d love to redo my bedroom. It definitely needs help.
I’d like to decorate my living room
I love your bedroom, it’s so pretty. My bathroom needs new items. I need to go to Walmart and check out the Better Homes And Garden items, they have available. Thanks for having the contest!
My bedroom :)
I would very much enjoy remoldeling our bedroom. We have original panels and valences that are 30+ years old. I believe the matching window panels and valences like the Better Homes and Gardens Lined Solid Taffeta Window Valance, Celadon along with the Better Homes and Gardens Pavilion Stripe Comforter Set would be a great start for a much needed mini remodel for the bedroom.
I would makeover one of the bedrooms with a new comforter set and mini dresser and some more lighting.
I would like to redecorate my living room.
I just bought a home a year ago and I dont have alot of furniture and my walls are all white I could use a make over in the up stairs living room its kind of bear of boring it would be nice to make it look like a living room
