FROM BLAH TO SPRING SOPHISTICATED
I am so excited to share my bedroom makeover with you. I turned my bedroom from blah to sophisticated with the inspiration from Better Homes and Gardens and a budget of $500.
Even better – I am able to offer one of my readers and mini-makeover! Read the details on the bottom of this post to win your own Better Homes & Gardens home make over!
It took me a few visits to Walmart to gather all of the products from the Better Homes & Gardens product line, and one day to put together my bedroom. You can also see what my fellow bloggers, Sheena of Mommy Daddy Blog and Colleen of Classy Mommy did for their living rooms and kitchens by visiting BHG.com.
$500 BUDGET
My challenge was to actually to try to spend the whole $500. In addition to bedding, curtains and lighting, I bought some green bowls from kitchen section and garden lights from garden section to bring little details to the room.
My Better Homes & Gardens products from Walmart:
Wall Scones & Candle Holders with candles 70$
Curtains with curtain accessories 60$
Bedding $125
Lighting $52
Picture Frames $40
Book Shelf $75
Bowls $10
Total: $432
(Prices are approximate with taxes)
In addition I got fresh flowers from 1-800-Flowers.com and printed out photos with my printer, and used some items that I found from our home.

BREAKING THE DESIGN RULES AND GOING WITH ASYMMETRY
Originally I bought two of the bookshelves – I know that in interior design it is all about symmetry, and I wanted to have two bookshelves on both sides of the bed as side tables. I like to have books, somewhere to lay down my laptop and other things for the night, but our bedroom is so small, that we couldn’t fit two bookshelves in the room. I decided to forget about traditional rules of design, and decorate my room with less symmetry.
I made my own side table with a few photo boxes and added some height with a third box and added a lamp. Note that even my lamps are not matching – but they have the same color lamp shades and are at the same height. I like the idea of having black and white photos, but I mixed it up little bit even in the photo frames. I used black and white photos, color photos of flowers (to match the decor) and a few pictures with a color pop up.
My plan was to bring spring and garden in our bedroom. I wanted to have green as accent color, but ended up added shades of fuchsia and pink, the colors that I found in a Better Homes and Gardens “Garden Room” rose pillow. I even used different colored candles in the wall scones and in the candle holders on the bookshelf to give some contrast.
Notice also my curtains, which look perfectly symmetrical at the first look, but when you look closely, I added garden lights as a tie back on the other side. The ribbon was holding the cream colored bedding together when I bought it, so talk about using your resources! To add a little personal touch, I tied three old fashioned keys to the ribbon tie back. I repeated the number three many times… three candle holders, scones, keys and three flowers on the window, bowls on the shelf, three boxes stacked as night table.
So.. What do you think? How did I do?

It’s amazing how your $500 budget for the Better Homes and Gardens collection transformed your room. I love the touches of red and the emphasis on black. With your prize, I would also like to brighten up my bedroom with new window treatments. I would also like to finally frame and hang all the wonderful family photos I have. This fund would let me do all the projects that get pushed to the bottom of my “to do” list because other practical demands always rise to the top. Thanks for the opportunity.!
Your bedroom looks BEAUTIFUL!!! You must be sleeping so dreamily now! I love the little garden lights on your curtains–how creative and adorable. I love the candles on the wall and the gorgeous red rose accents.
Hmmm…what room would I makeover? Maybe my living room or my bedroom or my outdoor room–my porch! Better Homes & Gardens line for Wal-Mart looks amazing–I’m going to check it out so I can make their magazine pages come to life in my own home!
Thanks for the opportunity to win, Katja!! :)

You did a great job! I love both of the “nightstands”
Love it!!!
My living room is in definite need of a makeover. As one of the main rooms in my house it should look put together while still being inviting I think. Your room is gorgeous.
I would like to give our bedroom a mini-makeover. No. I would just like to own new bedding for our room. Crisp, clean sheets, mmmm.
I would love to decorate our bathroom! We remodeled it a couple years ago, but have never been able to give it the finishing touches! :-)
By the way-I love your room! It’s beautiful! :-)
Your bedroom is beautiful!Everything ties together really well. The curtains with the garden lights, and the crisp white bedding. I like the different tables, and the lamps with the matching shades really make it pop!
We have a sitting room that needs some drastic help.
Your room look fabulous!!
I would love to update our bedroom with some new curtians…as it is we still just have the dirty old pull-shades that were there when we moved in.
Your room is so pretty!! I love it. My room would be this little room that my boyfriend gave me for everything i own. I am in desperate need of some organization and decorations:)
I LOVE what you did with the room!!
Since I’m in the process of working on my bedroom AND my office, I think I’d use the mini makeover on my bedroom (it’s further along and I’d like to see it finished)
I’m going to check the Better Homes & Gardens items at Walmart this weekend! Thanks!! WOW!

I love your new bedroom. I would love a new change for my living room. I would like new throw pillows, area rug and new curtains. It’s been awhile since we bought anything new for our living room.
Great giveaway!!
My dinning room is BORING. Big table, mismatched chairs and no decor at all. I’d love to tackle it and bring some Better Homes & Gardens flair into it!
I think you did a great job and the different bedside “tables” work well in your room!
You’ll have to come guest post on my blog sometime in my cheap yet chic home decor section :-) You did a fantastic job! I love the shabby chic feel of the room and the items you chose for the wall.
I would also redo my bedroom- it is the room that gets neglected design wise.
what a difference! I love the pillows, candle holders and especially those cool trunks! Boy, you could bounce a quarter of that bed! Nice job! can you come over and do my place now ;)
I would love to win and makeover our family room, we spend all our time in that room and have the most mismatched old and uncomfortable furniture, even a few good pillows to plop on the floor with would help!
