Georgia O’Keeffe Inspires Me!

by Katja Presnal on September 12, 2009

I have been absolutely terrified my entire life, and I have never let it keep me from doing a single thing that I wanted to to.

My kids started school this week, and we had some disagreements of clothing yesterday morning.

That, and listening to the 9/11 remembering on radio on the way back home from school really made me down yesterday morning. Then FedEx guy rang my doorbell and dropped of a review copy of Lifetime TV Network’s original movie Georgia O’Keeffe, a biography of artist Georgia O’Keefe, on my doorstep.

And while I can not say that the movie changed my life, but it changed my life for that moment, for yesterday morning.

Georgia O’Keeffe inspires and while her lifestyle isn’t for every modern woman, and not for me, I applaud her strength. Her husband understood that she was a “woman proud of her feelings, her body and her sex… model of female essence never been seen before”, yet he treated her really bad, O’Keeffe had so much strength that she left her husband in New York, and created a whole new life for her in New Mexico.

Georgia O’Keeffe was an amazing artist, and her art and her way of living was ahead of her time. She still inspires women today to be in charge of their own lives and do what they love and live life with passion.

I would love you to watch the Lifetime original movie Georgia O’Keeffe on Saturday, Sept 19 at 9 PM ET/PT and share what you thought about the movie. I will be sharing how Georgia and her art inspired me here in my blog and at LifetimeMoms.com

I was wondering how this movie was. Being married to an artist, I am always curious about films that portray artists… sometimes they seem very cliched and I was worried this one might be a little over the top- certainly her life could be made very annoyingly pretentious. I’ll definitely check it out!

I wish we had cable, as I’d love to see this movie. Being an art teacher/artist, I certainly am familiar with her work and her life story, but I’d like to learn more about her. I’ll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.
