Peach Frozen Yogurt Recipe
for Family Movie Night

Now that school is back in session, routines are in place, and homework is on schedule, our family wants to pay careful attention to incorporating enough family time. It’s easy to get caught up in routines and just go about living life without making the most of it.

For us making the most of it means having memorable family activities. I’m not talking about your everyday trip to the park, because after years all those activities (though very good ones) can blur together. I want to make sure we do things that are memorable and special. Things that can really bring our family closer together.

Family night activities are great for that. I like to have a special dessert ready for that too. The movie James and the Giant Peach is re-releasing soon on DVD and is already available on Blu-ray. I think it will be really fun to watch that for a family movie night and have this Peach Frozen Yogurt for dessert. My kids love any kind of ice cream, but you can definitely get away with calling this one healthy. Full of fruit, milk, and Greek yogurt, it’s the perfect dessert!

Peach Frozen Yogurt
a goodLife {eats} creation

  • 1 3/4 peeled and sliced peaches (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups honey flavored Greek yogurt
  • 1/8 – 1/4 tsp xanthan gum*

If your ice cream maker has an insert that needs to be frozen prior to usage, make sure you do that before beginning.

Toss the peaches in a bowl with the sugar and extracts and let sit in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Then, puree the peach mixture until very smooth. Combine peach puree with milk and yogurt. Pour into a sealable container and chill covered for 6 hours.

After chilling, stir in xantham gum and proceed with churning according to your ice cream maker’s instructions. After churning, serve immediately for “soft serve” or transfer ice cream to an airtight container and freeze until desired consistency is reached.

*I got this tip from Jane. See comment #2 for more info on xantham gum, basically it makes it so your frozen yogurt doesn’t get icy when you put it in the freezer. Thanks, Jane!

  1. Vielä bloggaaja = soon to be blogger :

Oh, and the question which I asked in finnish few seconds ago was meant for Katja Presnal but I can ask it in english too. So when you put photos on this site, do you use free photos from free sites or do you pay for using the photos and get them from non-free photo sites? I would like to become a blogger too, but I fear that if I use some free photos from free sites, some day I will use a photo for which I don’t have copyrights and which belongs to some professional photographer etc. And which should not be on free photo site…

  3. Wow, thanks for this recipe. I so want to try it and hope I don’t mess it up! I am horrible with things like this sometimes ;-) Have a super wonderful weekend!

  4. Thanks for this one -what a great idea!
