Psst… Handbags on Sale

by Katja on March 2, 2010

Can you have too many handbags?
No, I didn’t think so.

Don’t you love when you find a good deal?
Yes, I thought so.

For you, my bag-lovah friend, handbags on sale right now.
But hurry, these deals only last two days (or so).

baby star handbag, diaper bag sale, bag sale

baby star’s totes are all $29.99 and they feature a wide zipper pocket on one side and two open pockets on the other side that can hold a wipe case (included), bottle or cell phone. Diaper bag couldn’t be any cuter! The best part is this nobody will have to know it’s a diaper bag, and when/if you don’t need a diaper bag – these bags are big enough even for a laptop! (regular retail $60)

BCBG handbags up to 69% off at ideeli.com – so many styles, prices starting at $89. Pictured: the Magda Satchel $119, original price $348.00 and the Chili Crosshatch Tote $124, original price $398.00, both available in different colors.

Gilt Groupe has Kate Spade bags starting at $69 – but really hurry up, sale ends at midnight, and they are selling like hot cakes.

Hellolulu bag sale goes live at Totsy.com tonight – make sure to check available styles and prices then.

Style & co’s Snappy Shopper at Macy’s comes in eight different colors, and is plenty spacious. On sale now for $37.99, originally $78.

Yes, it’s true, I’m going to Oscars®!

by Katja on March 1, 2010

Oscar Gala, I'm going to Oscars, Kodak Oscar Bleacher, El Capitan oscar party, bloggers at Oscars, Academy Awards

I can not keep it as a secret anymore.. I am going to experience Oscars®!

Or let’s say, weather permitting… We’ve had such winter and snow storms in New York the past four days (yes, while we were gone and skiing in Colorado) that kids school is still cancelled today, possibly tomorrow too. There are 11,000 people in our county without power, and if more bad weather comes and that would happen to us too, I wouldn’t leave my family here in the cold, literally.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards® gala is held at the Kodak Theatre, and I am invited as a guest of Kodak’s. And not actually IN the Academy Awards® gala, but sitting in the bleachers. I will be checking out everybody who is somebody arriving to the gala on the red carpet . Nevertheless, I have been receiving emails and mail from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including an invitation to The 2010 Oscar® viewing party at the El Capitan Theatre.

Oscar Gala, I'm going to Oscars, Kodak Oscar Bleacher, El Capitan oscar party, bloggers at Oscars, Academy Awards

Kodak has a long history with the Academy Awards®. Kodak established its Hollywood technical center in 1927, when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded. It symbolizes Kodak’s role in developing of the film industry’s technological innovations and a key to Kodak’s collaboration with the motion picture industry. It comes as no surprise that many of the Oscar® winning movies have also been filmed on Kodak film. You can read more fun facts about Kodak’s involvement with the film industry.

I have been preparing to my Oscars® debut by watching most of the nominated movies. Tough job, but someone has to do it.

And yes, in a true Hollywood style, starving myself trying to fit in a smaller dress size, shopping for Spanx and clothes, and getting my hair done. While the bleacher babes don’t really need to dress up, how come I could go to even near to Oscars® and not shop for a new outfit (or two, just in case, you know)?

Here is my packing list for the Oscars so far…
BCBG Max Azria dress & leggings.
BCBG Max Azria accessories – rose bracelet & large statement ring.
Coach high heel platforms (I need to get some flats too..).
Hollywood by Michael Kors perfume (well, it’s in my to-buy list).
Makeups to create the smoky eye look with nude lips.
Camera, video camera and an iPhone for documenting the event. (Need extra battery for iPhone!)
Zone Perfect snack bars to keep energy up – it will be a long day!

Help! What else will I need?

I’ve been planning, giggling and virtually shopping together with Sugar Jones, Melissa, the Consumer Queen and Miss Lori and can’t wait to see my girls at the bleachers on Sunday.

I am really looking forward sharing the experience with them, and a handful of other bloggers including Wayne Sutton, SoCal Mom Donna (she even compiled a Twitter-list where you can easily follow our tweets from red carpet), Steve Garfield, and of course the fabulous Jenny from Kodak. Also, I can’t wait to see if Sweatpants Mom will be wearing sweatpants – or a bathrobe.

Oh, what a fun ahead, you know, if we don’t get snowed in…

Skiing in Telluride, Colorado

by Katja on February 27, 2010

skiing with family, skiing in Colorado, ski vacation in Telluride, lodging in Telluride Colorado, Telluride lodges

We left New York as it started snowing on Thursday morning. We were happy that our flight was able to take off despite the snow flakes coming down. We hear that it didn’t stop snowing for over 36 hours, and people got stuck on the highways, our home is without power, and probably fairly snowed in – at least I’m sure our car is covered.

We arrived in Montrose, Colorado, got our rental car with no problems, and once we arrived to Telluride, we got a great surprise; our reservation with SilverStar Signature Properties of a one bedroom lodge with a pull-out couch had been upgraded to a three bedroom lodge with hot tub and sauna with a mountain view. Some call it lucky, my best friend calls it Karma.

We skied under sunny cloudless skies yesterday, had our lunch at Giuseppe’s at 11,885 feet and enjoyed the hot tub and of course the sauna (sauna?! Are you kidding me? That’s one of the things I miss the most in Finland) after the long day of skiing.

See pictures from yesterday in my Whrrl-story.

You join Whrrl too!

Snow hearts – made by my son for me.
Skiing until your legs wobble – and wanting to do it again.
Sunny skies and mountain views.
Family time.

Sporty but Fashionable in the Olympic Spirit

by Katja on February 25, 2010

I’m skiing in Telluride, Colorado this weekend, and next week I will be heading to Park City Mountain Resort with my fellow Snow Mamas for more skiing.

10 things in my “ski bunny wish list” that I wanted to share with you…

1. The L.A.M.B. team Canada sweater just looks so cozy and warm… but it’s kids’ size and sold out.. But I know Roots has super cute sweaters like this too.

2. Osprey Packs backpack – just got one last week, and I’m getting ready to pack my laptop and everything in for my flight. Great go-anywhere backpack. Oh – don’t like the pink straps? Don’t worry, it comes with removable straps so you can match the straps with your clothes.. Who says sporty can’t be cute?

3. The USA Ski Team backpack is even sportier if you are not a girly girl.

4. The red Vancouver Olympic Mittens are only $10 and so cute!

5. … but what I really want are the Reusch Noram Ski Gloves ($105).

6. And I’d feel like a gold medalist in the Nike Team USA puffer jacket.

7. If there is one thing what I really-really want.. it’s the Völkl Bridge twin tip skis ($505) – but luckily at least the rental shop at Park City Mountain Resort has them – that’s where I tested them last month.

8. And Zappos has great news – now they also ship to Canada! Check out the limited edition Canada rainboots by Rockport ($120) It’s available both the United States and Canada, and there will only be 2,000 pairs produced, 1,500 of which will be numbered. Collectors boots in deed!

9. I also like the blue UGG boots to match the puffer jacket.

10. Last but not least… Gimme me some more snow! I am not ready for spring just yet, I want some great skiing in the upcoming month!

Nine West, Nine West social media, Nine West facebook, Nine West sale, Nine West Spring 2010

Are you already following your favorite companies on Twitter and Facebook?
If not, you should.

By now, many of your favorite brands are already somewhat social media savvy, and you can communicate with them, get your questions answered and feedback given.

Now, all of the companies are not quite there yet, but at least they have some type of social media presence and that’s good news for you, even if you won’t get the personal attention from your brand that you are looking for. There are online giveaways, cool campaigns and ways for you to get involved with the brand – and then there are the secret coupons and sales only for those in the know.

Nine West, Nine West social media, Nine West facebook, Nine West sale, Nine West Spring 2010

Nine West is one of those companies whose shoes I’ve loved for years, and now their social media savviness. Nine West just launched a rich-media shopping app on Facebook, making it possible for Facebook-users to shop directly from the company’s Facebook page. Facebook has certain rules of ecommerce on their platform, so this is one of the best done fashion shopping apps that is done following the rules. Rachel Roy also tested this type of app offering a one-day sale on Feb. 9 – and not surprisingly, both Rachel Roy and Nine West are owned by a same company.

Just the fact that you can shop from Facebook fan-page doesn’t make it social media savvy automatically – Nine West’s app is different, it gives you the capability to share your favorite styles with “share” or “like” buttons – and that’s how shopping becomes social on a platform that you and all your friends are already using.

And the Spring 2010 Look Book and its bold colors and resort accessories – what’s not to love?

Accessories are starting at less than 21 dollars, handbags are around $59 and the shoes $49 with the 15% discount and you can have them shipped for your home for free too. Now, go and be not just social media savvy, but money saving savvy at Nine West’s Facebook page.
