ONE DAY Movie

The movie ONE DAY follows the lives and loves of Emma (Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway) and Dex (Jim Sturgess of Across the Universe) over 20 years, checking in on them on every July 15th – the anniversary of the day they met in 1988. One Day is based on the international best-selling novel by David Nichols.

Emma is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. Dex is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground.

For the next two decades, key moments of their relationship are experienced over several July 15ths in their lives. Together and apart, we see Dex and Em through their friendship and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realize that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along. The movie Monte Carlo with Selena Gomez is a perfect fairytale summer movie for tweens and teen girls, and quite frankly even this mom truly enjoyed it. The best about the movie is the amazing scenery around Paris and Monte Carlo and the movie taking you to a dream tour of some of of the most enchanting summer scenes of Europe. Monte Carlo is a Cinderella story of its own kind, where the step-sister isn’t ugly but actually the most daring of the bunch, and where glass slippers are cowboy boots and horses are seen only on the polo field. In all of its unrealistic plot and turns it’s a fun story that any girl would like to come true.

Trip of a Lifetime truly turns into a trip of a lifetime!

The main character of the movie Grace, played by the Disney’s sensational Selena Gomez, graduates high school and has been working as a waitress in a small town Texas; saving money and just waiting for school to end and going on a trip of a lifetime with her best friend and a fellow waitress Emma (played by Katie Cassidy). The dream trip to Paris takes a bad turn when Grace’s mom and step dad tell her older step sister Maggie (played by Leighton Meester) has to join the girls for the trip. And as the girls think things couldn’t get any worse they find out that their hotel is a crappy, the tourist bus tour is crappier and even the weather isn’t treating them well.

Just as things are falling apart, the girls realize that Grace looks exactly like a British heiress named Cordelia Winthrop Scott and they decide to take a chance on life and pretend that Grace is Cordelia. The girl-trio travels to Monte Carlo to attend a charity event where Cordelia should be at and Grace is taking Cordelia’s spot (oh, and her hotel suite, clothes, makeups and everything but the shoes!). Cordelia is rude snobbish badly behaving heiress, and Grace has somewhat hard time pretending to be her, because she is the complete opposite with her kindness and in the end does not fool Cordelia’s aunt – and even Cordelia herself shows up!

Pretending to be someone else isn’t really a solution but I love how in the movie the girls just take a chance and go with it and decide to live in the moment. The movie inspires to live life to the fullest!

Discovering Who You Are

In Monte Carlo all three girls have a totally different experience and while they range from dancing in water fountains, dining in luxury yachts to flirting at the polo field, they all find something more important that what Monte Carlo has to offer; themselves. Maggie is finally starting to live after mourning for her mother who died, and her change is probably the most remarkable in the movie; she realizes that when you let go of the past – you can start living your today and future.

Emma, a small town waitress, has always had a positive view on life, and she has always taken chances of life, but they have not always worked out as she has expected. She realizes that her dreams are simple, but within her reach, and everything that she has always wanted for are right in the front of her, and she doesn’t have to chase bigger and better things; the better things for her come in small things in every day life. Emma has a date with an European prince in Monte Carlo only to realize that her boyfriend back at home is the one and only for her. I like that while the movie is an unrealistic Cinderella story that it includes Emma who is the happiest character in the movie and yet whose dreams are the most attainable, and she isn’t changed much by the fancy travels in Europe.

Grace learns that pretending to be someone else isn’t a solution to any of her problems, and that she has to create her own life, and find her own passion. I think it’s an important message for young girls to learn and also to see that life in someone else’s shoes isn’t any easier.

Only bad thing about the movie Monte Carlo – I am now terribly homesick to go back to Europe. The movie totally reminded me of my travels in Europe when I was at that age, from dancing in the water fountains, romantic visits in the castles, and taking the trains to new adventures. But no worries, I have now my own “tip jar” and I have decided that next summer me and the girls are not just watching these summer movies set in Europe, but we will have our own adventure instead.

I admit… I haven’t read the book The Help yet. My best friend gave me the book, and said it will change my life forever. I have been too busy for a life change, and to read an entire book; I was told I have to set up time to read it all at once and then to digest it. I think the Holiday weekend is the perfect time for that and I am hoping to hang out by the pool and watch my dear husband (of 13 years as of today!!!) to cook us some BBQ, and read and change my life.

For the rest of the nation who already knows what The Help is about – the movie is going to be out August 10th – yes, that’s correct. You may have seen a date August 12th, but it has been moved to two days earlier.

Are you ready for Judy Moody? Megan McDonald’s beloved children’s books are coming to alive this Friday in a movie Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer Movie. The movie is about Judy Moody’s (Jordana Beatty) who is determined to have the best summer of her life with the help of her little brother Stink (Parris Mosteller) and fun-loving Aunt Opal (Heather Graham). The script, penned by Kathy Waugh (Peep and the Big Wide World) and Megan McDonald, is based on the characters in McDonald’s popular children’s book series, and I have to be honest – I haven’t read any of the nine books but I know my kids absolutely love them, and that’s enough for me making a movie date with my kiddos this weekend and seeing the movie.

CARS was the first movie that really hit home for my son, now 8 years old, and I still remember too well how Life is a Highway, I wanna Ride it, All Night Long became an unofficial theme song for our family. Fittingly this was around the time we moved from Tennessee to Colorado and drove by the historic Route 66. Now CARS 2 movie is almost here, and Lightning McQueen will take it around the world this time, and I can’t wait to see it and inspire our family to travel around the world soon too. At least we will get to take the world tour with the movie!

Watch the film clip with Disney Pixar director John Lasseter above and how he already thought during the promotion of CARS how cool it would be to do another movie where the characters of the movie would travel around the world. In CARS 2 race car Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is back with his buddy tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) and the rest of the gang from Radiator Springs. This time, they’re heading overseas for the first-ever World Grand Prix, where Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. The movie introduces hilarious new characters and red-hot racing around the world.

CARS 2 will premiere on June 24th, 2011.

CARS 2 in LEGO

With the movie comes of course the gear; the CARS 2 merchandise. While there will be many many products sold under the CARS 2 license, I think one story here is above others; the story from the LEGO brick master who created the CARS 2 LEGO products. Take a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of a LEGO master builder Erik Varszegi and hear how he created the Lightning McQueen model made entirely out of LEGO bricks. Measuring 12 feet long and over 6 feet at its widest point this smiling character is made up of almost 250,000 tiny bricks.

Tangled is one of our family’s favorite movies on DVD right now. It is the iconic story of Rapunzel with new twists and it is not just for the girls, even the boys in our family enjoyed the movie. Mandy Moore gives her beautiful voice for Rapunzel and we had a change to catch up with her and hear what she had to say about becoming a Disney character.

Did you want to be a princess when you were younger?

Mandy Moore: I did! I think it’s every young girl’s dream to be a Disney princess. I didn’t necessarily want to be the princess with a big dress and a wand, but I definitely wanted a nice tiara like The Little Mermaid. I really wanted to be the mermaid princess.

How similar are you to Rapunzel?

Mandy Moore: I’d like to think that I’m pretty similar to Rapunzel. I think she’s got a great sense of adventure and she likes to see the good in people. She’s also very curious about the world. I can definitely relate to her in all these ways. I don’t know if I’m as brave as Rapunzel – but I’m really into martial arts. I’m not a martial arts expert or anything, but I’m a huge fan. Rapunzel is pretty handy with a frying pan in the movie, so she can clearly take care of herself.

Can you take care of yourself?

Mandy Moore: No, but I wish I could. That’s why I think I’m so interested in martial arts. I’m curious to see if I can pick up any tricks along the way.

How does it feel to be the newest Disney princess?

Mandy Moore: It feels very cool. I especially like the idea that this movie will live forever. One day, I’ll be able to show my own family, “Look what I got to be a part of.” It’s the ultimate childhood dream.

What’s your favorite song in the film?

Mandy Moore: My favorite song is the duet I get to sing with Zachary Levi (who voices Flynn). We got to record the song together, which was a lot of fun. I was blown away by Zach’s voice because I had no idea he could sing. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this is going to be amazing.’

Did you always want to be an actress when you were younger?

Mandy Moore: I think I wanted to be an actor and a singer ever since I was six years old, so I was in lots of school plays and things like that. I appeared in plays like The Christmas Carol, Gypsy and Bye Bye Birdie – but I didn’t always get the lead role.

Did that bother you?

Mandy Moore: No, it didn’t bother me. I was just excited to be included, especially because I was doing the plays with a lot of my friends. All I wanted was to be around my friends and to be in good company.

What advice would you give to youngsters who want to take up a career in acting?

Mandy Moore: If you want to become an actor, you have to understand that a lot of disappointment comes along with this job – but you can’t take it personally. Even to this day, I still get disappointed when I audition for something and I really want it, but it doesn’t end up going my way.

What’s the best way to handle rejection?

Mandy Moore: You just have to learn something positive from the experience. You have to think to yourself, ‘What can I do differently next time?’ Or maybe you weren’t doing anything wrong, but it just wasn’t the right opportunity. There’s always a next time!

Is it important not to take rejection personally?

Mandy Moore: It is very important! You have to find a way to not take it personally and not let it deter you from doing the thing that you love.

How would you inspire today’s youth ?

Mandy Moore: The only thing I can say is, “Be yourself.” You shouldn’t have to change for anyone to be their friends. Just continue to be yourself, no matter what.

Lifetime’s original mini series Marry Me airs on December 12th followed by a second part on Monday December 13th. I had an opportunity to show the movie for the Park City Mountain Resort Snowmamas in our Snowmamas Summit in Park City last weekend. I truly recommend having a Ladies Night Out – and by out I mean out in the snow!- and Ladies Movie Night In for your next fun get together with your girlfriends.

Park City Mountain Resort Snowmamas is a group of moms who share their ski vacation and ski sports tips with other parents, and this is my second year as a Snowmama. Friday had been a long travel day for everyone, and while Salt Lake City is a very convenient airport to get to from almost anywhere in the US, missed flights, confused airport shuttles and long flights had all of us ready for some fun and to get to know each others a little bit better – our group grew this year. We started our fun by heading to Gorgoza Park and get our winter fun on by snow tubing. There is nothing better than letting it go and trying something fun like crazy fast snow tubing – coming down the hill in a speed of light (ok, maybe not that fast, but hey it was very fast..) and screaming your lungs out.

After the snow tubing we all pretty much changed to our jammies in the ski lodge and crashed on the oversized couch to watch the Marry Me movie. While I adore the Marry Me movie viewing party ideas created by Dawn & Elizabeth of Partybluprints, we were all so beat from the day’s traveling and the snow tubing, that we were just happy to have a few snacks and chillax in the front of the TV. My special thanks goes for Eileen of Taking the Kids who pretty much was The Mama of the Snowmamas and helped to set up everything, and of course thanks for Krista of Park City Mountain Resort for hosting the entire weekend for us.

One of my favorite actresses, Lucy Liu, plays the main role in the Marry Me-movie and it was fun to see her in her first romantic comedy. In the movie Lucu Liu’s character, Rae is desperate to marry and settle down, but it doesn’t really help that her long time boyfriend dumps her. Suddenly Rae has two other men in her life – and the boyfriend comes back knocking her door and she takes you for this fun journey following her and which one of these three men she will choose. The movie is a lot of fun, and especially the second part of it.

I had a chance to chat with actress Chyler Leigh of Grey’s Anatomy this week. Chyler stars as “Queenie Alton” in the Lifetime Original Movie The 19th Wife. Chyrel Leigh told she was asked to star in the movie, and it was a big decision for her to leave her family for a month to film the movie in Canada. She was very laid back during our chat, and you could tell she loves talking about her family and her children, and her priorities are straight. The movie The 19th Wife is set in Utah in a polygamist community and based on David Ebershoff’s New York Times best-selling novel of secret world of polygamy. The movie is an interesting peak into polygamy, and also so much more. In fact it is more of a murder mystery and a story of a woman finding herself and having the strength to fight for what she believes in. What Chyler Leigh said about The 19th Wife

What did you first think when you heard about the movie?
Chyler Leigh: The character – she is incredibly strong woman who has her strong faith and values, and I found a lot of similarities to me, especially when it comes to her child – I like to protect my children too. The movie was so different what I had ever done before, it was great to step into it.

What’s so interesting in polygamy?
Chyler Leigh: It’s interesting to see how far people carry it out; their faith. It’s really interesting and a sad in a way just how they are supposed to stay mellow and keep producing. It’s incredible compelling – the strengh of these women.

How did you prepare for the role?
Chyler Leigh: It was exciting, and different what I had done before. It was an interesting parallel with my chartecter and me learning more about polygamy at the same time. It was very interesting to me, and upsetting too to hear about these stories. I did’t know a lot about it before going into that, and had to reach it, and I read the book during our filming.

What do you hope that are some of the takeaways that people get from The 19th Wife-movie?
Chyler Leigh: Everyone takes something different. No matter what you were told to believe in, it always is a matter of following your heart. I hope the movie tells, whatever you are passionate about, don’t be afraid to listen to your heart.

What was the most fun part to play Queenie in The 19th Wife?
Chyler Leigh: It was all so fantastic, the people were great to work with, including the crew and the actors. It was unique to be in this movie. My family stayed in L.A. and it was very unique because it was the first time I was able to 100% focus on the project.

What was it like to wear the costumes? And how was it with that long hair?
Chyler Leigh: The weather changed so fast, and the first week it was raining, it was nice to stay warm with the dress. But it was challenging on the hot days. The dress helped to step into the character. I had 24” hair extensions, and the hair and makeup took a lot of tim, and the hair was quite heavy and I can’t even tell how much hairspray we used for it. Not very eco-friendly.

What Chyler Leigh said about her life

Speaking of eco-friendly, what do you do to be more eco-friendly in your life?
Chyler Leigh: My son is very eco-conscious, telling us that we don’t want to look like in the movie Wall-E, he is very aware and conscious of earth. We live close to beach in Orange County and try to go to the beach on the beach clean-up days. When my husband or I need to go to L.A. we carpool often.

How do you live life to the fullest and what are you passionate about?
Chyler Leigh: I feel we are obligated to do good. I’m passionate about helping – I Iove Generosity Water organization, I’ve now started working with them, they want to end the water crisis in Africa, create wells, and create rain harvesting systems for towns. I’m also involved with The A21 – campaign against human trafficking and promoting women’s well being. Human trafficking – it’s sickening and I love children and want to help. And I feel obligated to help, like we all should.

What is your secret to successful marriage?
Chyler Leigh: Time! We don’t have much in quantity, so we focus on quality time – just to get out of the house, even if it is just to look at each others. We take a lot of time to build our marriage, we are a team, and we both come from situations like divorce, and you want to make these changes to become a better person. We work really hard to make our family our priority.

What Chyler Leigh said about Grey’s Anatomy and season 7

So Grey’s Anatomy had a horrible incident last season. How is it to deal with that drama in this season?
Chyler Leigh: Drama manifests differently in every character, my characters has a complete breakdown, and has to go to psych ward, and she can’t sleep, she can’t shut off her brain and can’t sleep. She feels guilty. Everyone handles it differently in the show. Everyone will have to start doing one-on-one sessions. Everyne will start seeing my character differently, and everyone will start tiptoeing around her.

How do you think your Grey’s Anatomy fans think of you after seeing you as Queenie in The 19th Wife?
Chyler Leigh: I hope they see that I’m not a one note person.

Do you trade any parenting advice with the other Grey’s Anatomy cast members like Ellen Pompeo?
Chyler Leigh: Yes, we have like 20 kids among all of us, and we definitely talk about it, in fact it is quite a hot topic on the set.

Do you have any favorite TV shows?
Chyler Leigh: Yes, Top Chef!

What can you tell us about your new movie?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: StarStruck is a movie with a great, little love twist. I play a character called Jessica – and the movie’s story is all about her falling for a pop star, played by Sterling Knight. I think the movie’s going to have everyone laughing because it’s funny and it’s really, really sweet. Jessica is really down to earth and sweet. She’s not obsessed with fame, but her sister is. In fact, her sister is obsessed with Christopher Wilde – who is the pop star played by Sterling in the movie. She’s a huge fan of his!

Are you similar to Jessica in any way?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: Well, I can really relate to Jessica because I’m new to Hollywood, just like she is in the movie. Hollywood is a whole new world to me!

Let’s talk fashion, Danielle… Are you a fan of your character’s outfits in StarStruck?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: Jessica is really girlie, which is pretty similar to me – but she wears a lot of pink and I’m not the biggest fan of that color. I’m pretty casual, just like Jessica – but I think she wears more dresses than I do.

How would you describe your personal sense of style?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: I love wearing jeans. I live in them! You’ll always find me wearing jeans, boots and a T-shirt – but I’m trying to get into fashion more and I want to play around with it. It’s fun to play with fashion and clothes.

Who is your fashion icon?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: I love Blake Lively. She’s one of my favorite actresses and she’s got a really classy and beautiful look. She’s somebody that I really look up to and follow.

Have you always wanted to be an actress?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: I never really pictured myself as an actress. I just fell into the industry when I was 10 years old.

How did you get your big break?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: I was getting my haircut in Chicago when someone approached my mom. They asked me to audition for an agency and it all started from there. I hadn’t even performed in any school plays or anything like that, so it was pretty amazing to be picked up like that.

So what’s your top tip to acting success?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: I think it’s all about working hard and learning as much as possible about acting. I took acting classes and I’m always trying to improve myself. Everyone can improve and the more you work in the industry, the better you are going to feel about it.

Do you have any audition tips for youngsters who want to follow in your footsteps and act?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: Be yourself. It’s important to get into character when you’re performing a scene, but it’s also important to be yourself when you’re meeting people at castings. Put yourself into the character’s shoes and really follow your instinct when you perform the scene, but it’s fine to be yourself once the scene is over.

Is it natural to be nervous at auditions?

DANIELLE CAMPBELL: Some people get really nervous, but others don’t. It’s completely random. If nerves hit, you’ve just got to work through them and be confident with yourself. Oh, and stay positive.

Are you a fan of romantic comedies?

STERLING KNIGHT: Absolutely! I’m definitely a romantic comedy dude because I’m a big romantic at heart. I’m a softy, so it’s always nice to watch movies that make you think that love at first sight is actually possible.

What can you tell us about your character in StarStruck?

STERLING KNIGHT: Christopher Wilde is the most famous and successful pop star on the face of the planet. He has a skewed perception of reality because that’s what his life is like, but he’s a good person underneath it all and he works hard to do his job properly.

Did you enjoy playing Christopher?

STERLING KNIGHT: Sure. I love cars, so it was really fun to play a guy that has six of them in his garage! I had the time of my life on this movie.

Have you ever met anyone like Christopher Wilde in real life?

STERLING KNIGHT: Zac Efron is dangerously close to Christopher Wilde. He doesn’t have as many cars as Christopher, but he is hardworking and he is genuinely one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

Where did you meet Zac?

STERLING KNIGHT: We shot a movie together called 17 Again and we’ve been friends ever since. He’s very similar to Christopher because he’s really, really famous and he’s extremely inspiring to watch.

Would you like to become a pop star like Christopher?

STERLING KNIGHT: Not really. I’ve always had fun with music, but I prefer to listen to it rather than sing. It was definitely a fun experience to get into a recording studio and see how everything works, but it’s never been a main goal of mine. I don’t think I’ll be actively seeking a pop career.

Spill the beans, Sterling… Have you ever been starstruck before?

STERLING KNIGHT: I don’t usually get starstruck, but I met Sir Paul McCartney randomly on Sunset Boulevard a few years ago and I lost it! I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t think and I didn’t know how to speak. It was crazy. He was nice enough to talk to my family and me for 10 minutes, but I remember babbling away about nonsense.

Which celebrity would make you starstruck right now?

STERLING KNIGHT: I think I’d be pretty starstruck over John Mayer. I’m a big fan of his music and I think he’s great. Like I said, I don’t usually lose my cool when I see a celebrity – but I’d be impressed if I got to talk to John Mayer. It would make my day.

What was the highlight to filming in Hollywood?

STERLING KNIGHT: It was especially cool to film in Hollywood because Danielle – who plays Christopher Wilde’s love interest in StarStruck – had never been to Hollywood before. She’d never seen any of the landmarks and she was really awestruck at the handprints in the concrete at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. It added a great element to the shoot.

Was she blown away by the Hollywood landmarks?

STERLING KNIGHT: She was! I had so much fun watching her eyes widen when she saw things for the first time. She walked up to the imprint of George Clooney’s shoe to see how big his feet were and things like that. She was really funny.

Tell us a reason why we should buy the movie on DVD..

STERLING KNIGHT: We’ve got some really cool stuff on the StarStruck DVD that I’m really excited about. We’ve got some expanded music sequences that were really fun to shoot and there’s also an entire song that was never heard in the original movie. It’s a really catchy track! If you have as much fun listening to it as I had recording it, you’re in for a HUGE treat. StarStruck is a really cool romantic comedy that will have you laughing your head off. It’s sweet, romantic and a lot of fun to watch. Trust me… You’re going to love it!
