<p>We had to make our <a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/2011/12/moving-to-sweden.html">decision to move to Sweden within 24 hours</a>, and part of me hopes that the actual move would have been a shotgun move as well. There is nothing worse than waiting, and moving forward slowly and not knowing what comes ahead. The <a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/2012/01/uncertain-times-sweden-is-still-waiting-us.html">uncertain times</a> still continue, and truth to be told, it has been tough, especially after <a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/2012/01/farewell.html">my husband left</a>. </p>
<p>I&#8217;ve tortured my friends with updates like <em>&#8220;we didn&#8217;t get the house we wanted, will be homeless in Sweden soon&#8221;</em>, and complained how hard it is to leave the US, or how sad it is to give away our dog and how people who say they&#8217;ll buy your things from Craig&#8217;s List don&#8217;t show up, and how it breaks my heart to see my kids&#8217; friends and teachers hosting them farewell parties and how much I know they will be missed and they will miss their friends. </p>
<p>Part of me feels like I have to dwell on the bad parts of this move too. <a href="<br />
http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/2012/01/carpeing-the-shit-out-of-diem.html">I have to carpe the shit out of diem of the crappy days too</a> &#8211; or how else the good moments ever felt so good, if tough times weren&#8217;t meant to feel tough too? </p>
<h2>It&#8217;s OK if it&#8217;s tough</h2>
<p>My mother-in-law said to me (halfly joking, I hope) that part of her is happy that we are having rough time moving out of the US, because it sure is hard for her to see us go. And I get it. We are super excited about the move, can&#8217;t wait to live in Europe, and every day I see so many things around me that make me think &#8220;thank God we are moving to Sweden.&#8221; But how would people around me feel, if I mentioned these all the time? I think it is important for our family and friends to see too the real struggles we go through too, and the reality without sugarcoating it. </p>
<p>We talk about things we will miss and things we won&#8217;t miss with the kids all the time. I tell them more about Europe, they are too young to remember much from when we lived there and have visited the last times. I want them soak every single thing they love about Beacon, New York, were we live, and I want them to remember the things we don&#8217;t like here either. I&#8217;ve learned so much about my children this way. If we had only focused on the positive sides and how wonderful everything will be, I would have missed a huge opportunity to teach my children about life, and I would have missed an opportunity to get to know them better. </p>
<h2>The things we won&#8217;t miss&#8230;</h2>
<p>In one of the pictures my youngest drew was a Walmart with its big parking lot, and McDonalds on the other side, a sushi restaurant on the other side. The Walmart and the McDonalds parking lots were empty and the sushi restaurants parking lot was full. I asked what he thought when we drew the picture, he said &#8220;I don&#8217;t like McDonalds and Walmart, and maybe other people will learn to like the sushi place more too.&#8221; It reminded me of the lunch date in the school cafeteria earlier this school year with him. It was the lunch with parents day, and I had brought in a healthy lunch for him, and the parent sitting in the same table had brought a Happy Meal for her child. The principal of the school walks by and says &#8220;lucky you, you got a Happy Meal&#8221; for the kid with french fries, soda and chicken nuggets. My son&#8217;s face was stunned. How could the principle say &#8220;lucky you,&#8221; didn&#8217;t she know McDonalds food was unhealthy? My then 8-year old whispered to me he was the lucky one to get the healthy lunch and gave me a hug. </p>
<p>I understand that many things frustrate the kids too, and I know they will flourish in Europe. I know this is the right decision for our family. But still, knowing all this, it&#8217;s still not easy to hug your best friends, say good byes, get rid of everything you own, give away your dog and pack up and go. </p>
<h2>Living in the moment</h2>
<p>I don&#8217;t allow myself to think that a week from today I will be on our stopover in Iceland soaking my tired mind and body in <a href="http://www.bluelagoon.com/">Blue Lagoon</a> hot springs. It will be amazing journey. But now, I still have to scrub a New York apartment, say farewell for our family pet who can&#8217;t come to Sweden with us, sell my car and pack everything. And I am taking every moment in as it comes. </p>

<p>My old home town Helsinki is the World Design Capital of 2012, and I am so excited that I am able to cover the events and happenings in the city this year. I had in hopes to visit Helsinki at least once during 2012, but now with our move to Sweden, I know I will be visiting Helsinki all the time! </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Screen-Shot-2012-01-19-at-12.32.28-PM.png"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Screen-Shot-2012-01-19-at-12.32.28-PM.png" alt="" title="Cafe Kauko WDC Helsinki" width="520" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-14713" /></a></p>
<h2>Café Kauko</h2>
<p>Here is one of the first quirky cool things that popped in Helsinki for the WDC 2012: Café Kauko. Café Kauko is a popup café that moves from one place to another during 2012 (currently at the shopping center Forum in the central Helsinki). The coffee shop is sleek with modern furniture, the walls are white, so are the furniture. But the entire purpose of this café isn&#8217;t to show case well designed furniture for a coffee shop &#8211; quite the opposite. The purpose of Kauko is to showcase WHY good design is important. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.youdesign.fi/en_GB/index.php"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Screen-Shot-2012-01-19-at-12.27.50-PM.png" alt="" title="cafe Kauko WDC Helsinki 2012" width="315" height="297" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-14712" /></a></p>
<p>&#8220;Kauko&#8221; is a Finnish nickname for <em>kaukosäädin</em>, the remote control, and yes &#8211; the entire café is remote controllable. Anyone can virtually <a href="http://www.youdesign.fi/en_GB/index.php">visit Kauko online</a> and see live video from the coffee shop and remote control the furniture, music and lighting. You can make the chairs or the tables to go up and down, dim the lights or add some music. Unfortunately for those in the US the time difference makes it a bit difficult to play with real life situations. Kauko closes already at 7:30PM Finnish time, which is only 12:30PM EST. </p>
<p>Kauko truly demonstrates the importance of great everyday design for its visitors &#8211; it&#8217;s not comfortable to even sit down to have a cup of espresso when the table is way too low or way too high &#8211; or having a conversation with your friend is impossible when the music is too loud or when it&#8217;s too dark to even see her. </p>
<p>Kauko shows that the significance of design is often noticed only when it is lacking. </p>

<p>I have been a <a href="http://www.skimbacotravel.com/2011/04/briggs-riley-luggage/">fan of Briggs &#038; Riley luggage for a while</a>. It&#8217;s high quality luggage with lifetime guarantee &#8211; and that&#8217;s not something you see often. I&#8217;ve had several <a href="http://www.skimbacotravel.com/2011/02/suitcase-trouble/">cute pink suitcases</a> which have exploded after six to twelve months of my use, and was just tired of shopping by the looks, and wanted something that is worth buying, and was luckily introduced to Briggs &#038; Riley. </p>
<p>I feel like Briggs &#038; Riley was listening to me saying how I still liked the more feminine colors for luggage because they just launched their latest collection in the above color <a href="http://www.briggs-riley.com/brx-lava/">&#8220;Lava&#8221;</a>. I&#8217;m hoping to get the <a href="http://www.briggs-riley.com/category/productDetail.aspx?id=Explore-25-Upright_BU125X&#038;col=BRX">BRX Explore 25&#8243; Upright</a> in &#8220;lava&#8221; so I don&#8217;t have to fight about the Briggs &#038; Riley suitcase I have now with my husband. These amazing bags don&#8217;t come with a cheap price tag, this baby is $320. Now, with the lifetime guarantee it is way worth it and with my use it comes cheaper to buy this one bag than a new bag every year or so. </p>
<p>If you act fast, you will be able to score Briggs &#038; Riley luggage for 50% off at <a href="http://www.ruelala.com/invite/skimbaco">Rue La La</a>. I have been looking for these bags for about six months now and I&#8217;ve never seen the prices this low! </p>
<p>I want this: </p>
<p><a href="http://www.ruelala.com/invite/skimbaco"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Screen-shot-2011-10-26-at-6.46.40-PM.png" alt="" title="briggs &amp; riley luggage on sale" width="328" height="439" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-12681" /></a></p>
<p>Also thinking about this:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ruelala.com/invite/skimbaco"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Screen-shot-2011-10-26-at-6.46.32-PM.png" alt="" title="briggs &amp; riley luxury luggage on sale" width="326" height="424" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-12682" /></a></p>
<p>And I think hubby might get this from Santa:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ruelala.com/invite/skimbaco"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Screen-shot-2011-10-26-at-6.47.02-PM.png" alt="" title="briggs &amp; riley" width="287" height="377" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-12683" /></a></p>
<p>Click to <a href="http://www.ruelala.com/invite/skimbaco">Rue La La</a> to see all of the models. </p>

<p>Read the Disney Dream special on Skimbaco blog network to get the scoop on the this beautiful new cruise ship with old world charm and feeling, with the newest technology and inventions.</p>
<p>Disney Cruise Line&#8217;s newest and the largest vessel Disney Dream was christened on Wednesday morning on January 19th, in the sunny Port Canaveral in Florida. I was one of the lucky members of media to witness the fun yet heart warming event. We were escorted through a red carpet from Disney&#8217;s own ship terminal to the dock where a large multimedia display and stage was waiting for us &#8211; and the majestic Disney Dream was docked in the front of us. This was my first real ship christening event, even though I remember fondly how we named our boats when growing up. There has always been something mystical about the sea and the sailing vessels to me, and I couldn&#8217;t believe my luck to be part of the Disney Dream Christening event. Like Christening a child &#8211; christening a boat or ship is a tradition to bless the vessel, and the ship also receives a blessing from a godmother.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-blueprints.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Blueprints performance"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8791" title="disney dream christening event: blueprints" src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-blueprints.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening" width="520" height="232" /></a></p>
<p>The event started with special remarks with Robert A. Iger, the president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. The stage was taken over by a large scale musical and dance performance where the making of the Disney Dream Blueprints was illustrated. The show was like directly from Disney musicals and told a story how Disney Dream was a true dream come true, and enforced Disney&#8217;s mission to make everyone believe dreams come true. In this case, Dream literally came true, and the audience couldn&#8217;t but believe.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-christening-blueprints.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8793" title="disney-christening-blueprints" src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-christening-blueprints.jpg" alt="Disney Cruise Line: Disney Dream Christening" width="520" height="365" /></a></p>
<p>Next the stage was taken over by Disney&#8217;s beloved pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean and Jack Sparrow and Mickey Mouse were the stars of the action packed musical performance with smoke lingering around the stage.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Disney-dream-christening-pirates.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Pirates"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8792" title="Disney-dream-christening-pirates" src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Disney-dream-christening-pirates.jpg" alt="disney dream pirates, christening event" width="520" height="328" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/pirates.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Pirates, Jack Sparrow"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8794" title="pirates" src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/pirates.jpg" alt="Jack Sparrow, pirates, disney dream christening" width="520" height="347" /></a></p>
<p>Gigantic inflatable champagne bottle was floating in the water in the front of the stage and Mickey Mouse was not quite ready to perform the christening and pop the bottle on the side of the ship quite yet. He told the anxious audience that the bottle had to be filled with dreams first! The Disney Dream represents not just a dream come true, but also dreams that will come true, and the show continued with more musical performances of dancers and all of the Disney princesses.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-princess.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Disney Princess"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8796" title="Disney Dream Christening: Princesses" src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-princess.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening, princesses, inaugural" width="520" height="437" /></a></p>
<p>Mickey Mouse was busy introducing different &#8220;dreams&#8221; that were filling the large champagne bottle, and while the musical performances were Broadway style and Disney quality and truly amazing, I liked also the flag parade that included flags of all of the countries of the employees onboard Disney Dream, as well as the navy band playing. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-flag-parade.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Flag Parade"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-flag-parade.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening Flag Parade" title="disney-dream-flag-parade" width="520" height="326" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8798" /></a></p>
<p>One of the very touching moments was also when the crew onboard was highlighted &#8211; and they were all on the verandas of the ship waving to us on the shore. This really describes the attention to the detail Disney has; every single member of the crew is top notch, and as important piece of the puzzle making the Disney guests have an experience they will remember for ever. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-crew.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Flag Parade, crew onboard"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-crew.jpg" alt="Disney Dream crew onboard" title="disney dream christening crew" width="520" height="385" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8799" /></a></p>
<p>When Mickey Mouse announced the bottle was ready and filled with dreams, it was time to bring on the official godmother for the ship to perform the christening together with Tom Staggs, the chairman of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Mickey Mouse. Fairy Godmother showed up, and the audience got its biggest laugh when Tom Staggs said they were actually thinking of another godmother for the Disney Dream, and he also thanked Fairy Godmother for getting him his job. Finally it was time to introduce the real godmother for Disney Dream, Jennifer Hudson, whose dreams had come true, and whose singing career had originally started on Disney Cruise Line&#8217;s Disney Wonder ship as a performing artist. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Disney-dream-jennifer-hudson.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, godmother, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: Jennifer Hudson"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Disney-dream-jennifer-hudson.jpg" alt="jennifer hudson, godmother" title="Disney-dream-jennifer-hudson" width="520" height="334" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8802" /></a></p>
<p>Jennifer Hudson performed and the entire cast of the Disney Dream Christening event joined her on the stage and then it was time to bless the ship and do the official christening. A helicopter flew in to lift the large champagne bottle for the final step of the christening. The tradition is to break a champagne bottle on the side of the ship and in Disney style it had to be bigger and better. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-helicopter.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: helicopter"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-helicopter.jpg" alt="helicopter" title="disney-dream-christening-helicopter" width="405" height="520" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8804" /></a></p>
<p>The helicopter flew the gigantic champagne bottle on the side of the ship, and it magically popped with confetti and sparks flying out and the ship was christened! Fireworks launched from Disney Dream&#8217;s deck in the grand finale of the christening. Disney Dream was ready to set to sail and everyone agreed with me &#8211; the event was something most of us had never experienced before. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-grand-finale.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening: grand finale"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-christening-grand-finale.jpg" alt="grand finale disney christening" title="disney-dream-christening-grand-finale" width="520" height="312" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8805" /></a></p>
<p>After the official christening event we were escorted back to the terminal to wait that the beautiful Disney Dream was ready for us to get onboard. The terminal was filling up with giddy excitement and we were ready to be amazed by Disney Dream. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-skimbaco-travel.jpg" alt="Disney Dream Christening event, Inaugural christening cruise, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream Christening Photos" title="Disney Dream Christening on Skimbaco blog network"><img src="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/disney-dream-skimbaco-travel.jpg" title="Disney Dream Christening on Skimbaco blog network" width="520" height="404" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8807" /></a></p>

<p>Lifetime&#8217;s original mini series <a href="http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/marry-me">Marry Me</a> airs on December 12th followed by a second part on Monday December 13th. I had an opportunity to show the movie for the Park City Mountain Resort <a href="http://www.parkcitymountain.com/winter/snowmamas">Snowmamas</a> in our Snowmamas Summit in Park City last weekend. I truly recommend having a Ladies Night Out &#8211; and by out I mean out in the snow!- and Ladies Movie Night In for your next fun get together with your girlfriends. </p>
<p>Park City Mountain Resort Snowmamas is a group of moms who share their ski vacation and ski sports tips with other parents, and this is my second year as a Snowmama. Friday had been a long travel day for everyone, and while Salt Lake City is a very convenient airport to get to from almost anywhere in the US, missed flights, confused airport shuttles and long flights had all of us ready for some fun and to get to know each others a little bit better &#8211; our group grew this year. We started our fun by heading to Gorgoza Park and get our winter fun on by snow tubing. There is nothing better than letting it go and trying something fun like crazy fast snow tubing &#8211; coming down the hill in a speed of light (ok, maybe not that fast, but hey it was very fast..) and screaming your lungs out. </p>
<p>After the snow tubing we all pretty much changed to our jammies in the ski lodge and crashed on the oversized couch to watch the Marry Me movie. While I adore the Marry Me movie <a href="http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/marry-me/article/ladies-night-viewing-party-ideas">viewing party ideas</a> created by Dawn &#038; Elizabeth of <a href="http://www.partybluprintsblog.com/">Partybluprints</a>, we were all so beat from the day&#8217;s traveling and the snow tubing, that we were just happy to have a few snacks and chillax in the front of the TV. My special thanks goes for Eileen of <a href="http://www.takingthekids.com/">Taking the Kids</a> who pretty much was The Mama of the Snowmamas and helped to set up everything, and of course thanks for Krista of Park City Mountain Resort for hosting the entire weekend for us. </p>
<p>One of my favorite actresses, Lucy Liu, plays the main role in the Marry Me-movie and it was fun to see her in her first romantic comedy. In the movie Lucu Liu&#8217;s character, Rae is desperate to marry and settle down, but it doesn&#8217;t really help that her long time boyfriend dumps her. Suddenly Rae has two other men in her life &#8211; and the boyfriend comes back knocking her door and she takes you for this fun journey following her and which one of these three men she will choose. The movie is a lot of fun, and especially the second part of it. </p>
<p><em><br />
Disclosure: I have a working relationship with both Lifetime &#038; Park City Mountain Resort. All my opinions are always mine.<br />
</em></p>

<p>Greetings from the beautiful Rockport in Cape Ann, Massachusetts. </p>
<p>Believe it or not, but it was a movie and my friend Linda, a fellow Park City Mountain Resort Snowmama, who invited us to Rockport. And the funniest thing, Linda doesn&#8217;t even live here. </p>
<p>Let me explain. </p>
<p>Earlier this year I was on an all-women ski trip in Park City, Utah, on a Snowmamas Summit. On one of the nights we cozied up in our ski lodge, and watched the movie <em>Proposal</em> with Sandra Bullock. I had seen the movie before too and thought the scenery in the movie was amazing. This is so me &#8211; I notice if the entire house in a movie is decorated with IKEA furniture, or I want to try out a recipe someone is cooking in a movie, or I want to visit (or live!) in a place I see in a movie. I absorb everything&#8230; </p>
<p>But back to the ski trip and why it has anything to do with us being in Rockport four months later&#8230;. Next morning in the ski lift I mentioned to my friends that the movie, set in Alaska, really made me want to visit Alaska. </p>
<p><P ALIGN="center"><IMG width="510" alt="Rockport, Cape Ann, Massachusetts" SRC="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/travel/IMG_5739.jpg"></P></p>
<p>Thankfully I hadn&#8217;t been booking any flights to Sitka (no offense Sitka, you may be beautiful too), because the movie is <em>set</em> in Alaska, but <em>filmed in</em> Cape Ann, Massachusetts, in small towns like Rockport and Gloucester. My friend Linda was able to tell this and many other amazing things about the Rockport area, she visits almost every summer. </p>
<p>Note to myself and for you too, if you want to visit places you see in the movies check the actual filming locations for each movie at <a href="http://www.imdb.com">imdb.com</a> (unless it&#8217;s like the Statue of the Liberty or Eiffel tower you see in the movie). Luckily I had Linda, I might be on my way to Sitka right now. </p>
<p>When I got home from my ski trip, I told my husband we are going to Rockport, MA, this summer. <em>Someone</em> might say that I got little obsessed about it, but it just seemed like a destiny that I see the place in a movie and my friend tells me so many good things about it, and it includes beaches, fishing boats and ocean (do you need more than that?). </p>
<p><P ALIGN="center"><IMG width="510" alt="Rockport, Cape Ann, Massachusetts" SRC="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/travel/IMG_5731.jpg"></P></p>
<p>I know, it&#8217;s not really destiny at all, but this is how I live life to the fullest &#8211; I want to see the world through pink-colored glasses and at least <em>think</em> it was truly meant for me to visit Rockport this summer. </p>

<p>I was honored to be a keynote speaker at <a href="http://sometime.fi/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">SoMeTime2010</a> conference in Helsinki, Finland, last week. The conference was organized by Finland&#8217;s most prominent social media users and practicioners, and sponsored by Nokia. The trip allowed me to visit my family, including seeing new family members I had never met before, and enjoy a quick Turku-Helsinki-Stockholm tour, and will be sharing some of my favorite finds with you the upcoming weeks.</p>
<p>I enjoyed backyard BBQ with my parents.<br />
Visited my favorite aunt.<br />
Enjoyed some fried herring and <em>Lonkero</em> (it&#8217;s like Mike&#8217;s Lemonade, just better) with my sister on a river boat in Turku.<br />
Almost got sunburned.<br />
Walked around Stockholm&#8217;s Gamla Stan (Old City) and shopped all day long with my mom.<br />
Ate the best cinnamon buns and strawberry cake you can find.<br />
Saw a small island full of nudists while passing by on a cruise boat.<br />
Got to know new Finnish artisans.<br />
Took at least 30 pictures of old doors in Finland and Sweden.<br />
Flew with IcelandAir, didn&#8217;t see ash in Reykjavik, but want to go horseback riding and whale watching in Iceland one day.<br />
Spoke Finnish with a thick Turku dialect, just because I could, and oddly had missed it.<br />
Realized I need to go back to Finland more often to see everyone.</p>
<p>When I arrived back to JFK in New York I had mixed feelings, because I felt I had come home. </p>
<p>I think a person can have two homes in her heart. </p>
<p>PS. Here is the map of Scandinavia if I am confusing with all the weird place names&#8230;<br />
And just so you know how large Scandinavia is and how I travelled; it was 4 hour flight from Reykjavik to Helsinki, it&#8217;s two hour drive from Helsinki to Turku, and it takes 18 hours by boat to go from Helsinki to Stockholm. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/2010/04/what-to-take-plane-flight-travel.html&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=1&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;font=arial" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:25px"></iframe><div name="googleone_share_1" style="position:relative;z-index:5;float: right; margin-left: 10px;"><g:plusone size="small" count="1" href="http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/2010/04/what-to-take-plane-flight-travel.html"></g:plusone></div><p><img width="500" src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture369.png" border="0" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p>I have been traveling frequently for work the past few years, and have tried many products that fit my busy lifestyle. While rolling bags for flights are great, and there are some great expensive beauty products that I have liked, I end up leaving my rolling laptop bag home and the best things in my beauty bag are cheap tricks, not luxury beauty products. On the end of the day &#8211; I use products that work for me the best. I like to stay comfortable during flights, but not that comfortable that I&#8217;d travel with sweatpants and sneakers (sneakers are only for sports in my book). </p>
<p>Presenting Top 18 products I take with me almost on any flight. </p>
<p><strong>SKIMBACO LIFESTYLE TRAVEL ESSENTIAL TOP 18 &#8211; WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR FLIGHT</strong></p>

7. Snacks &#8211; Zone Perfect bars<br />
8. Water &#8211; whatever you can buy before boarding on your flight.<br />
9. Scarf &#8211; Coach<br />
10. Magazine &#8211; Vogue<br />
11. Mints &#8211; Licorice Altoids, or anything pepperminty<br />

16. Lip balm &#8211; Bigelow<br />
17. Make up &#8211; <a href="http://eyeslipsface.com/face/shimmer/shimmer_palette" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials" target="_blank">e.l.f. Shimmer Palette</a><br />
18. Headphones &#8211; Bose</p>
<p><strong>1. LARGE TOTE BAG</strong></p>
<p>Rolling bags, great for your neck &#8211; but most of them you can&#8217;t fit nicely under the seat on plane, and it&#8217;s difficult to find thing from inside. My solution: a large bag. I sometimes even travel with a large Lands End tote. </p>
<p><strong>My bag:</strong> MICHAEL Michael Kors Astor Satchel. </p>
<p><P ALIGN="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture371.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying one:</strong> Large opening, easy to find things, pockets for organizing things, fits under plane seat, easy to carry on shoulder. Get leather. If you can&#8217;t find an affordable leather bag, get a canvas tote, it will outlast any fake leather one (while you save for the leather one). </p>
<p><strong>2. GOOD WALKING SHOES</strong></p>
<p>I do travel wearing high heels every now and then. And every now and then they get me in trouble. Like this week, I twisted my ankle trekking to get my luggage. I don&#8217;t wear tennis shoes, at least not often, sneakers never, but loafers are great for traveling. Good leather boots are my favorites for winter. For summer: nice sandals, maybe even flip flops, just make it nice ones. </p>
<p><strong>My flip flops:</strong> Børn® Signature Crown Series Sandals</p>
<p><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture373.png" border="0" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><a href="http://www.bornshoes.com/">Børn</a> is one of my favorite shoe brands, because comfort is important in my book. And Børn shoes just happen to be much more stylish than many other comfortable shoes. Check out <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26redirect%3Dtrue%26ref_%3Dsr%5Fnr%5Fn%5F0%26keywords%3Dborn%2520sandals%26bbn%3D672124011%26qid%3D1270991241%26rnid%3D672124011%26rh%3Dn%253A672123011%252Ck%253Aborn%2520sandals%252Cn%253A%2521672124011%252Cn%253A679337011&#038;tag=skimthelife-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Børn sandals at Amazon</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=skimthelife-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />, great selection with sale prices. </p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong><br />
Remember to get shoes that are easy to take off, you will have to take your shoes off at the security check at the airport. </p>
<p><strong>3. BOOKS</strong></p>
<p>My life is busy, traveling makes it busier. But instead of working through each flight, I read books when I travel &#8211; and this way travel time has become luxury time for me, I don&#8217;t have enough time to read books in my normal work week. </p>
<p><strong>My books:</strong> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fentity%2FMalcolm-Gladwell%2FB000APOE98%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dsr%5Fntt%5Fsrch%5Flnk%5F1%26qid%3D1270992134%26sr%3D8-1&#038;tag=skimthelife-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Malcolm Gladwell</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=skimthelife-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fentity%2FNicholas-Sparks%2FB000APGF36%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dsr%5Fntt%5Fsrch%5Flnk%5F1%26qid%3D1270992235%26sr%3D1-1&#038;tag=skimthelife-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Nicholas Sparks</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=skimthelife-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> keep me entertained. </p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> If you have a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015T963C?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=skimthelife-20&#038;linkCode=as4&#038;camp=213381&#038;adid=1QHFQ68YJ99FDAXS9T5H&#038;creative=390973&#038;creativeASIN=B0015T963C" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Kindle</a> or any other reading device, that&#8217;s great &#8211; you don&#8217;t have to carry as many books with you. But me &#8211; I keep buying paperbacks. I like that I can write notes on the business books I read. </p>
<p><strong>4. LAPTOP </strong></p>
<p>No explanation needed. </p>
<p><strong>My laptop:</strong> <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QQ8EKO?tag=skimthelife-20&#038;camp=213381&#038;creative=390973&#038;linkCode=as4&#038;creativeASIN=B002QQ8EKO&#038;adid=0MFSCRHFBS6QHBC5M87R&#038;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Apple MacBook</a></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> Can you work with it? If you need programs that don&#8217;t run with Mac, get a PC. Weight matters when you travel a lot, and you might want to consider one of the small ones, like HP Mini. </p>
<p><strong>Additional:</strong> Laptop is for work and for pleasure. Remember to have your headphones, and download a movie or two for your flight. </p>
<p><strong>5. SMART PHONE</strong></p>
<p>From checking emails to taking photos, navigating from airport to hotel to finding the best sushi bar close by. From listening to music, playing games to checking my flight info. Even more valuable when you travel. </p>
<p><strong>My phone:</strong> iPhone</p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture388.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> Remember to check the data plan costs so they don&#8217;t come as a surprise. Get a phone that works for you &#8211; also for your fingers! Try the buttons and the touch screen before committing buying. And it&#8217;s not just the phone that makes it smart &#8211; it&#8217;s the applications. </p>
<p><strong>6. APPS</strong></p>
<p>Your phone is as good as the applications. From flight info to restaurant reviews, for locating closest Starbucks to broadcasting your travel story &#8211; smart phone applications give you that. </p>
<p><strong>My app:</strong> Whrrl</p>
<p>I Whrrl and let my family and friends know where I am and to share my experience and recommendations &#8211; and to hook up with friends close by. Make sure to use Whrrl when you travel and become a member of <a href="http://whrrl.com/society/show/12543" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Skimbaco Lifestyle Society</a>. </p>
<p><strong>7. SNACKS</strong></p>
<p>Carry a snack or two with you. With flight delays, bad airport food (or just simply full restaurants or not enough time on your layover), and to keep you going. Great options; dried fruit &#038; nuts, snack bars and high protein snacks. </p>
<p><strong>My snack:</strong> Zone Perfect Bars, I like the Fudge Graham. </p>
<p align="center"><img width="450" src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture389.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> Avoid high sugar snacks, they will just make you crash later, and don&#8217;t really give you long lasting energy. </p>
<p><strong>8. WATER</strong></p>
<p>Don&#8217;t buy this ahead of the time &#8211; you can not get through airport security carrying a water bottle. But buy a bottle before getting your flight and keep drinking it throughout the flight. The airplane&#8217;s dry air and pressurised cabins during flight cause the body to lose water (also: don&#8217;t drink alcohol during your flight, it dehydrates you even more). Sure, you can get water during the flight too, but carrying your own is still recommended, you will need much more than just one or two cups on long flights. </p>
<p><strong>My water:</strong> Whatever I can buy before boarding. </p>
<p><strong>9. SCARF</strong></p>
<p>I love scarfs, and they are great for traveling. Large scarf makes any outfit more stylish, keeps you warm during the flight or even covers your hair if your destination is rainy. </p>
<p><strong>My scarf: </strong> Coach silk scarf</p>
<p><strong><br />
10. MAGAZINES</strong></p>
<p>Sometimes you are just too tired to read a book &#8211; magazine or two are a must for ling flights. Save money and subscribe several at home, and save the issues for travel reading. </p>
<p><strong>My magazines:</strong> Vogue, Coastal Living, ELLE Decor</p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture394.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>11. MINTS</strong></p>
<p>I never travel without mints, not just they are great for your breath, but also great for easing out the feeling of pressure in your ears during take off and landing. Also, I have found out that strong mints like Altoids keep you awake!</p>
<p><strong>My mints:</strong> Anything peppermint, or Liquorice Altoids. </p>
<p align="center"><img width="300" src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture390.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> Gum is also a good option, I just prefer mints!</p>
<p><strong>12. TOOTHBRUSH</strong></p>
<p>No, I don&#8217;t carry a toothbrush with me anymore on flights. Thanks to Colgate&#8217;s Wisp one-use mini toothbrush that comes with toothpaste. </p>
<p><strong>My toothbrush:</strong> Colgate Wisp</p>
<p align="center"><img width="300" src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture391.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p>Size of a lipstick &#8211; gotta love Wisp! </p>
<p><strong>13. NOTEBOOK</strong></p>
<p>I use iPhone notepad for most of my notes, but also like to carry a notebook with me. </p>
<p><strong>My notebook:</strong> <a href="http://www.mulberry.com/#/storefront/c5593/4680/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Mulberry Hayden</a> is on my wishlist. I used to work for Mulberry and love their products. </p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture392.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>14. EYE CREAM</strong></p>
<p>Ok, most people like to carry eye drops for flights, and they are great too. Me &#8211; I get dark under eyes so easily, and my skin dries easily too. Good eye cream is a must for flights. </p>
<p><strong>My eye cream:</strong> <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PHDPJK?tag=skimthelife-20&#038;camp=213381&#038;creative=390973&#038;linkCode=as4&#038;creativeASIN=B001PHDPJK&#038;adid=1652V5KMQ229YYM2BMMH&#038;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Lumene Time Freeze Cooling Eye Stick</a></p>
<p>The Lumene Time Freeze Cooling Eye Stick reduces puffiness and dark circles under eyes, while it combats the signs of aging. It gives a nice cooling feeling and makes my under eyes look and feel better instantly. </p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture393.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>15. CONCEALER</strong></p>
<p>I wouldn&#8217;t be telling the truth if I said the Lumene eye stick is enough for my under eyes after a long day of traveling. No &#8211; I need something to cover my dark under eyes.</p>
<p><strong>My concealer</strong>: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VECKKQ?tag=skimthelife-20&#038;camp=213381&#038;creative=390973&#038;linkCode=as4&#038;creativeASIN=B002VECKKQ&#038;adid=1E7SMTRW7CG43GDR3E62&#038;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">CoverGirl &#038; Olay Simply Ageless Concealer</a></p>
<p>CoverGirl &#038; Olay Simply Ageless Concealer gives coverage like CoverGirl and moisture like Olay &#8211; I love the mashup products by CoverGirl and Olay, they give coverage yet leaving your skin soft and natural looking. </p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture395.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>16. LIP BALM </strong></p>
<p>Dry air, long flight &#8211; don&#8217;t travel without a good lip balm or lip gloss! You will need the moisture. </p>
<p><strong>My lip balm:</strong> <a href="http://www.bigelowchemists.com/index.php/cPath/2_118?osCsid=3032a83008517aa55df5b9d66d4bde04" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Bigelow</a></p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture397.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> There are several moisturizing lip glosses and lip sticks in the market too, just carry something to bring moisture to your lips. </p>
<p><strong>17. MAKE UP</strong></p>
<p>My must haves: mascara, mineral powder and good lipstick, and then some. But after flight &#8211; I need some shimmer and glow to look at least somewhat presentable. </p>
<p><strong>My secret weapon: </strong> <a href="http://eyeslipsface.com/face/shimmer/shimmer_palette" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">e.l.f. Shimmer Palette</a></p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture398.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p><strong>What to look when buying:</strong> Remember to get travel sized liquid cosmetic products so you can carry them on board. I like e.l.f. cosmetics for traveling, they are inexpensive and I easily forget something in my hotel. </p>
<p><strong>18. HEADPHONES</strong></p>
<p>Music or movies &#8211; you will enjoy good headphones during your flight. I have bought enough cheap headphones that I am ready for my upgrade now&#8230; Bose headphones are my next travel-related product I&#8217;ll add in to my flight bag.</p>
<p>My wish list headphones: <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XA8766?tag=skimthelife-20&#038;camp=213381&#038;creative=390973&#038;linkCode=as4&#038;creativeASIN=B000XA8766&#038;adid=14M32WQC3ME22STEJMED&#038;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" alt="travel essentials, what to pack for flight, travel products">Bose</a></p>
<p align="center"><img src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/skimbaco/Picture400.png" alt="travel products, travel beauty products, what to take on flight, what to take to plane, best travel products, lifestyle travel" title="Flight bag essentials"></p>
<p>What is missing?</p>
<p>Share your favorite product you carry for flights!</p>
<p><em>Disclosure: I&#8217;ve had a working relationship with some of the brands mentioned here, but no product samples were sent for this post, and these are brands/products I buy regularly (well, I don&#8217;t buy Mulberry and Bose &#8220;regularly&#8221;, just wish I did). </em></p>
