So, you’re not up for a full scale kitchen remodel, but you would like to update your look. Going from a dark color to a fresh, light color will open the space and make it feel roomier without having to knock down any walls. 3. If your cabinets are outdated, or you simply don’t like the color anymore you don’t have to install brand new cabinets for a new look. Instead, repaint your existing cabinets. pained kitchen cabinets Photo credit 4. Or, for an open shelving look, remove cabinet doors and paint or wallpaper the inside for a nice open cabinet look. You don’t have to remove all of your cabinet doors, just pick a section to use as open store and highlight your favorite dishes and serving pieces. Not only will the open storage add depth to the room, but a burst of color too. You can also distress cabinets and give them an antique look, like below. open kitchen shelving Photo credit 5. Speaking of cabinets, how about installing updated cabinet hardware? New cabinet and drawer knobs and pulls can easily give your kitchen an updated look. If you want to add extra personality, look for eclectic or inexpensive antique pieces. 6. Does your kitchen sink still have the original faucet? Updating your faucet is a quick swap. Not only can you choose a newer model, but you can even choose a different finish to brighten up your sink area. See a great Swedish country kitchen makeover post with a great faucet swap. I like to keep my sink area simple and uncluttered. Just a small plant and a pretty soap container adds detail without feeling cluttered. 8. Create DIY curtains. Sure you can purchase new window treatments to help with your budget kitchen face-lift, but it is pretty simple to make your own too! 9. Adding plants to a room creates visual interest. Try growing a windowsill herb garden. Not only will it be pretty and last longer than fresh cut flowers, but they’ll be useful in your cooking and smell great! Or try growing succulents – they are inexpensive and easy to take care of. 10. Purchasing new linens such as place mats, table clothes, dishtowels, oven mitts, and pot holders can add a punch of color and new-ness to your kitchen with very little cost. If you like to change things up regularly, consider purchasing seasonal colored or holiday related items. More ideas on Skimbaco’s Pinterest boards.
