For Men: Sweaters For The Fall Season

sweaters-for-men One of the best things about the change of seasons from summer to fall, in my opinion, is the return of sweaters to the wardrobe. Days are slowly turning chilly as the calendar changes, which means its sweater weather. Whether you are going to be wearing old favorites that last season after season, or looking to add some new pieces to your wardrobe, here are some of my favorite and essential sweaters for fall 2013.

Fall Sweaters 2013

There are a few types of sweaters that I think every guy should have in their closet. These range from simple, classic cashmere to fun, printed styles. Here, I’ve selected some sweaters I am loving this season from some of my favorite brands, and selected a breadth of styles as well. For sweaters, brands that never disappoint include the likes of Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Jack Wills, and GANT. I am particularly loving GANT this season, both the GANT line and the GANT by Michael Bastian line. The inspiration behind the Fall 2013 collections is a great story. This season, Michael Bastian drew inspiration from the Norman Rockwell of the 1940’s and 1950’s. The pieces are classic styles infused with Bastian’s touch. An example is the fair isle crew (1) in a soft oatmeal and navy combination, perfect for the season. Fair Isle sweaters are a staple in my wardrobe, and are perfect for transitioning from late fall into the winter season.

Men Fall Sweaters

Classics always exude true style to me whether its a chunky cable knit, shawl collar, or simple cashmere, you cannot go wrong. For fall basics, opt for cable knits in autumn hues such as maroons and dark oranges such as this lambswool option by Brooks Brothers. (4) Chunky sweaters always make a statement in the fall. They are versatile in that they can act as outerwear during early fall and transition into layering pieces as the weather turns colder. GANT has an array of great options such as chunky turtleneck pictures above. (5). For the GANT Fall 2013line  the collection is entitled “New York Stories and Collegiate” They garnered inspiration from the East Coast and quads of the Ivy League schools. I love this infusion of style and the return to East Coast inspiration. The pieces are quintessentially fall, and perfect for the man about town. Considering adding pops of color to fall looks. Sweaters are a great way to accomplish this. Fall style is dominated by darker hues such as navys and olives. Add a bright sweater under a navy blazer for interest. Cashmeres are perfect for layering and are available in bright tones such as this vibrant blue v-neck from J.Crew (6). This fall opt for a mix of classic and fun. Do not be afraid to wear a bold color under a blazer, or a fun print. Traditional styles such shawl collars and cable knits continue to be great options and will last you season after season. Featured Sweaters: 1.Fair Isle Crew, GANT by Michael Bastian ($195) 2.Printed Crew, Jack Spade ($325) 3. Shawl Pullover, Jack Wills ($148) 4.Cable Knit Crew, Brooks Brothers ($148) 5. Turtleneck, similar GANT ($175) 6. Cashmere V-Neck, J.Crew ($225) Here is a little styling inspiration for a fall look centered around a lambswool v-neck in wine shade. I paired it with staples such as a navy blazer and white oxford. Preppy style is  infused through the layers and tie. The entire look is styled from the GANT fall collection. Happy Fall!
